Position description

This position will be engaged in research in Environmental Design and Urban Geography, focused on residential development in California, with a specific focus on the social and ecological impacts of low density residential land use patterns. The Junior Specialist will conduct reviews of literature, liaison with community partners and take on progressive responsibility in terms of data collection and analysis. This position will include a potential role around the coordination of undergraduate research assistants; and will be expected to be actively and significantly involved in publishable research activities (e.g., writing summary reports of lab/field work, reviewing the literature in the area of study, and engaging in discussions with the research team on the interpretation of research results). The Junior Specialist may also provide assistance in the preparation of research presentations, and participate in professional/technical societies or groups appropriate to their expertise. The Junior Specialist will also have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Environmental Design, or a related field.
• Experience or strong interest in landscape architecture and environmental design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated ability to work well in collaboration with others, and to exhibit autonomy and independence in handling various problem solving and administrative tasks
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational skills, and keen attention to detail
• Experience with data collection, entry, and management of large databases

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $36,984 [100% annual] or Step II - $39,444 [100% annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
