Position description

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UC Davis invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in the area of computational materials science with interests that may include, but are not limited to, quantum materials, multiscale modeling, and data-driven design of materials. Experience with the use of machine learning or artificial intelligence is desirable but not required. This search is part of UC Davis’ commitment to hiring leading research faculty with a strong dedication to teaching, research, and service that share in the institution’s goals of improving educational access and addressing the needs of increasingly diverse state, student and faculty populations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an internationally impactful funded research program that complements and/or extends the Department’s research strengths, and for teaching materials science and engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. While developing an independent research program, candidates should be willing to contribute to collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts that are aligned with the Department’s vision of advancing engineering materials and developing materials-based solutions to technological challenges. Candidates must provide evidence of, or show the potential to develop, the ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, to develop new courses or seminars, and to provide high-quality mentoring that promotes the professional development of graduate students. Faculty are expected to contribute to the College of Engineering’s Next Level Strategic Vision and to participate in service consistent with UC Davis’ shared governance model.

For full consideration, applications must be completed by 11:59pm on November 14, 2025 for an expected start date of July 1, 2026.
