Position description

The Department of Sociology at the University of California, Davis, offers temporary Lecturer positions to teach undergraduate courses during the spring quarter of the 2026-2027 academic year. These positions are dependent upon the instructional needs of the department and may be full- or part-time. Currently we are seeking candidates with teaching expertise in the following courses:
SOC 150 — Criminology
Course Description: Sociological analysis of criminal behavior in relation to social structure and the criminalization process.
SOC 151 — The Criminal Justice System
Course Description: Sociological analysis of the different components of the criminal justice system including the emergence and interpretation of criminal laws, the contemporary roles and functions of the police, criminal courts and correctional institutions.
SOC 152 — Juvenile Delinquency
This version has ended; see updated course, below.
Course Description: Study of juvenile delinquency in relation to the family, peer groups, community, and institutional structures. Consideration of processing of the delinquent by formal agencies of control.
SOC 155 — Sociology of Law
This version has ended; see updated course, below.
Course Description: Law as a social institution. Theories and research on the relationships between legal systems and other aspects of society. How social inequalities can be reproduced, lessened, or exacerbated by law and its enforcement.
SOC 178 — Punishment & Corrections (4 units)
Course Description: Origins, characteristics, and consequences of various sanctions and punishment regimes including fines, banishment, incarceration, deportation, and execution.

APPOINTMENT DATES: Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Spring Quarter Service period is:
Spring Quarter 2027: March 25 – June 10
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in teaching at the college level, and advanced degree in Sociology or related discipline is required.
