Position description
The Department of Radiology, School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, is seeking an academically accomplished clinician-scientist, neuroscientist, or physician-researcher and educator in the Adjunct series at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank to contribute to the research and educational mission of the Radiology Physics Division within the laboratory of Dr. Ipek Ozdemir.
The position will support interdisciplinary research at the intersection of clinical research, neuroscience, psychiatry, public health, medical imaging, and magnetic resonance (MR) spectroscopy, with an emphasis on the development, analysis, and interpretation of advanced imaging and neuroimaging data. The incumbent will contribute to collaborative research investigating brain structure, function, neurobiology, and neuropsychiatric disorders, including the application of advanced MR imaging and spectroscopy approaches to clinically relevant questions. Candidates with a background in quantitative analysis of imaging data, neuroscience, psychiatry, or related clinical disciplines, combined with experience in neuroimaging, MR spectroscopy are particularly encouraged to apply. The incumbent will also contribute to education and mentorship of Radiology residents, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and interdisciplinary trainees.
The position combines research, teaching, mentoring, and professional service responsibilities consistent with the University's academic mission and the expectations of the Adjunct Professor series.
Research Responsibilities
The incumbent will:
A. Conduct and contribute to independent and collaborative research within the Ipek Ozdemir research laboratory and the Radiology Physics Division.
B. Develop, implement, and evaluate research methodologies involving quantitative analysis of imaging data, MR spectroscopy, imaging biomarkers, and related medical imaging techniques.
C. Perform and oversee analysis and interpretation of MR spectroscopic imaging and associated imaging and clinical datasets.
D. Contribute to grant proposals, the development of research protocols, study design, data analysis methodologies and pipelines, manuscripts, abstracts, presentations.
E. Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, physicists, researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars on multidisciplinary research projects.
F. Apply appropriate quantitative, statistical, and computational approaches to imaging and clinical research.
G. Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and other scholarly activities.
H. Contribute to the development of new research directions and methodologies that advance the use of imaging in clinical research, clinical neuroscience, and public health.
Teaching Responsibilities
A. The incumbent will participate in the educational mission of the Department of Radiology, including teaching related to translational clinical research, public health, and medical imaging research.
B. Develop and deliver educational content in translational clinical research, medical imaging and public health research, and related areas.
C. Provide instruction to Radiology residents through departmental courses, lectures, seminars, conferences, and other educational activities.
D. Integrate principles of clinical research methodology, imaging science, data analysis, and public health into resident education.
E. Develop educational materials and presentations appropriate to the level and needs of learners, trainees, residents, and postdocs.
F. Participate in assessment and evaluation of learners, as appropriate.
G. Contribute to interdisciplinary educational activities involving Radiology, medical physics, clinical research, and related disciplines.
H. Graduate and Postdoctoral Mentorship
I. The incumbent will provide academic and research mentorship to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars working within the laboratory and related research programs.
II. Mentoring responsibilities will include:
1) Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in MR spectroscopic imaging and imaging data analysis.
2) Provide guidance in research methodology, experimental design, imaging acquisition considerations, data processing, quantitative analysis, and interpretation.
3) Assist trainees in developing research projects and scholarly objectives.
4) Provide mentorship in scientific writing, presentations, publication development, and dissemination of research findings.
5) Support trainees in developing independent research skills and expertise in medical imaging research and quantitative data analysis.
6) Collaborate with faculty mentors to monitor trainee progress and provide constructive academic and research feedback.
Professional and Scholarly Activities
The incumbent will:
A. Maintain professional expertise in medical imaging, MR spectroscopy, clinical research, public health, quantitative data analysis, and/or related areas.
B. Participate in scientific meetings, professional organizations, and scholarly activities relevant to the position.
C. Pursue opportunities for collaborative research funding and extramural support.
D. Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly products.
E. Remain current with advances in imaging technology, quantitative imaging and analysis, MR spectroscopy, clinical research methodology, and related fields.
University and Public Service
The incumbent may participate in University, departmental, professional, and public service activities consistent with the appointment, including:
A. Departmental and divisional committees and academic activities.
B. Interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives.
C. Professional review activities, as appropriate.
D. Outreach and educational activities related to medical imaging, public health, and clinical research.
Academic Responsibilities
The incumbent will be expected to demonstrate achievement appropriate to the appointment in the areas of:

The relative emphasis of these responsibilities will reflect the individual's specific assignment within the Radiology Physics Division and the research laboratory.
Working Environment
The position is based within the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of California, Davis, and will work closely with the Radiology Physics Division and the research laboratory led by Dr. Ipek Ozdemir. The incumbent will interact with faculty, physicians, medical physicists, researchers, trainees, and other members of the University community in support of the Department's research and educational missions.
Qualifications
• Minimum requirements include a M.D./M.P.H., PhD, or M.D.
• Completed research fellowship in molecular neurology or related field.
• Must have strong background in epidemiology and biostatistics with the ability to conduct rigorous statistical analyses of complicated large datasets.
• Advanced academic training and/or professional expertise appropriate to the position.
• Demonstrated experience with publications in medical imaging research, MR spectroscopy, clinical research, clinical neuroscience, public health, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in MR spectroscopic imaging and imaging/data analysis with publications.
• Experience studying neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders or brain health.
• Experience conducting independent and collaborative research.
• Demonstrated scholarly productivity through publications, presentations, or other research contributions.
• Experience teaching or mentoring learners in an academic, clinical, research, or related setting.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific and technical concepts to multidisciplinary audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, clinicians, physicists, researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.
• Must have 5 years of clinical experience and the ability to bridge clinical questions with imaging/biomarker research.
• Must have substantial scientific training and at least 4 years of research experience, and a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement.
