Academic Administrator (67%) and Lecturer (33%)
This position opening is for an individual to serve, as both, a part-time Academic Administrator (67%) and part-time Lecturer (33%) position. Each position description is detailed below:
ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR DUTIES (67%)
NATURE AND PURPOSE
Academic Administrators are appointees who administer programs that provide service closely related to the teaching and research mission of the University. The Academic Administrator oversees complex units with a substantial amount of independence and works closely or jointly with faculty. An Academic Administrator is primarily an administrative position. Any contributions to teaching would be considered part of University and Public Service and evaluated as part of service. An Academic Administrator is not a faculty title and as such is not eligible to be an Instructor of Record. Appointees in the Academic Administrator title series cannot be independently responsible for conducting regular courses but may provide a guest lecture in their area of expertise.
An appointee in the Academic Administrator title series is not provided automatic Principal Investigator status. Their role in research is typically in the administration and management of the research enterprise, budget, planning, etc.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director (ED) provides leadership in the management of a premier entrepreneurship program and is responsible for the overall program development, fundraising and external relations for the institute. Working with the Advisory Board, the Executive Director defines and prioritizes the strategic goals of the institute, as well as identifies and coordinates the resources needed to execute those goals. This role is responsible for building and maintaining an external network of partners, donors and sponsors across universities, corporations, investors and foundations to ensure the long-term success and financial stability of the institute's programs. This role is also responsible for collaborating with the Dean's Office and Development group at the Graduate School of Management to develop and support a comprehensive fundraising plan to fund short- and long-term fundraising objectives for the institute. The position is contingent on funding and pending administrative approval. Salary is based on ability and experience.
Specific Responsibilities of the Academic Administrator
Administration (75%)
Oversees successful implementation of existing programs and responsible for developing new channels for delivery of programs. Programs include but are not limited to:
- Entrepreneurship Academies
- Big Bang! Business Competition
- Business Development and Leaders for the Future Fellows Programs
- Mentor Network
- Undergraduate I&E programming
- Campus I&E collaborations and initiatives
Strategic Development
Set strategic goals and oversee execution of the institute's programs. In collaboration with the Advisory Board and other members of the institute team as deemed relevant, takes a lead role in defining and prioritizing the strategic goals of the Institute as well as identifies, retains, and coordinates the necessary staff and other resources to meet those goals.
Fundraising
Works with Development and the Dean's Office to establish fundraising goals for long-term financial viability. Identifies, initiates, and supports sponsorship commitments with corporations, foundations, and funding agencies. This includes working with campus fundraising professionals to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising operational plan that will fund the short- and long-term objectives of the institute.
University and Public Service (20%)
Builds and maintains a network of university and external partners. Identifies, initiates, and maintains partnerships that provide the institute's programs with participants including both students (university students, faculty, and staff) as well as instructors, advisors, mentors, and sponsors. Participates in activities and events and collaborates with staff to ensure a quality education and experience. Within UC Davis, maintains and grows collaborative relationships with relevant academic programs in the Graduate School of Management and other relevant colleges, departments and units. Externally, maintains and grows relationships with Institute Advisory Council, industry and professional organizations, non-profit organizations, media organizations, and other internal and external stakeholders including entrepreneurs, investors, corporate research and development executives, intellectual property and corporate lawyers, professional service firms, foundations, and state and federal policy makers. Promotes the institute's achievements and advances the institute's goals by assuming a visible role in internal and external activities, including speaking engagements, media relations, and conference participation.
Professional Competence (5%)
Maintain continual professional growth by engaging in activities such as maintaining membership in professional societies and associations, participating in professional events that focus on the practice of innovation and entrepreneurship, management, and other related issues, or presentation of executive education programs.

LECTURER DUTIES (33%)
This position involves teaching within the Graduate School of Management. The School of Management will compensate the teaching portion of the appointment. The rank and step will be determined by experience.
This appointment is renewable contingent on continued departmental teaching needs and on demonstrated of excellence in teaching. Compensation and the duration of the appointment will depend on the number of courses assigned and the number of units per course. This position will participate in the ongoing instruction for the Masters of Business, Business Development Fellowship program and potentially the Undergraduate Business Major.
The courses are taught primarily in person at the main campus of UC Davis. However, some sections need to be taught on weekends on our remote campuses in Sacramento and San Ramon. Specifically, the incumbent will serve as instructor of record or co-instructor of record for three podium courses—typically MGT 251 (Management of Innovation), the Business Development Clinic, and/or an Online MBA Residential course, based on program needs—and will occasionally develop and deliver lectures in other School of Management graduate and undergraduate courses and Institute programs.
Key responsibilities include:
• Course development: Develop and teach courses that focus on industry-specific trends, leadership development, networking strategies, and professional growth for undergraduate business students and MBA students. Responsibilities include course preparation, creating assignments, and designing exams.
• Course delivery: Foster an inclusive, engaging, and dynamic learning environment with practical exercises and hands-on projects. Responsibilities include delivering course lectures, grading assignments and exams, and holding office hours outside of class.

Qualifications
For Academic Administrator: MBA or Master's in relevant area.
For Unit 18 Lecturer: MBA, MS, or equivalent degree in business or closely related field.
For Lecturer Position:
• Work experience in innovation and entrepreneurship strongly preferred
• Evidence of teaching, leadership, and administrative skills relevant to the independent management and direction of the Institute and its programs.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to obtain extramural support for program activities
• Demonstrated ability or potential and interest to mentor and advise students
• Evidence of communication skills and collegiality consistent with effective departmental, campus and professional citizenship
