Position description

RESEARCH 90%
The Junior Specialist will be actively and significantly involved in publishable research activities through the following roles and duties:
• Acquisition and processing of transcriptomics and epigenomics data from mouse and human subjects.
• Bioinformatics and analysis of single-cell or bulk RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq or RNA-seq) data.
• Management, and organization of genomic data.
• Shared lab duties, such as ordering and maintaining lab supplies, maintaining equipment, and maintaining compliance. -Preparing scholarly manuscripts and figures for publication in peer-reviewed journals -Preparing and presenting oral abstracts at local, regional, and national conferences

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE. 5%
• The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• The incumbent may have the opportunity to submit data for presentation to relevant conferences, such as Society for Neuroscience (if funding is available).
• Active participation in weekly lab meetings, journal club presentations, presentations from outside speakers, and weekly workshops to help incumbents develop their career goals.
• Participation in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and/or review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to area of expertise

UNIVERSITY SERVICE 5%
• The incumbent will mentor undergraduate student assistants in the lab.
• The incumbent will participate in public outreach activities.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in biological, mathematics, bioengineering, or computational sciences, preferably with experience in bioinformatics/genomics, image processing, or computer science. The job also requires a highly motivated, organized, and focused individual who is eager to learn and to take initiative. This is a full-time appointment, with occasional evening or weekend hours expected for management of studies.
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
• Problem-solving, deductive reasoning, and decision-making skills

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

•Previous lab experience preferred
•Ability to learn new experimental methods as required.
