Position description
The Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of California, Davis, invites applicants for a qualified Junior Specialist.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research (90%):
This position requires creative contributions to active research programs investigating topics relevant to the research areas on the role of the environment in neurotoxicity, lung injury and pathology, and/or cardiac injury. The candidate will engage in preparation of test articles, exposure of animals to study articles, animal euthanasia and necropsy. The candidate will micro dissect the brain, work with mammalian cell cultures, qPCR, PCR, multiple omics (metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics) and microscopy. The successful candidate will work in transdisciplinary team environments combining clinical toxicology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, imaging, behavioral assessment, and toxicology.
The candidate will select appropriate research methods and techniques for the goals of the project. Candidate will author technical reports, attend laboratory meetings, review journal articles, engage in discussions on research and the interpretation of results. They will have the opportunity of presenting research findings at local meetings and national meetings such as the Annual Society of Toxicology and One Health meetings. Other responsibilities will include assistance with lab management and coordination of supplies needed for the successful day-to-day running of the lab (e.g., ordering supplies and maintaining the labs) and coordination of undergraduate student assistants.
Professional Competence (5%):
The candidate may be able to participate in local and regional meetings, expected to interact with and engage stakeholders and with other agencies involved in environmental toxicology, neurotoxicology, or One Health.
University and Public Service (5%):
Service will involve mentorship of undergraduate students, visiting scholars, and other technical staff in the Rumbeiha laboratory, and collaborator’s personnel as appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, or a related field.
Previous exceptional experience working in a biological sciences research laboratory.
Previous experience working with rodent animal models and biological specimens.
Experience in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry.
Demonstrated outstanding communication, interpersonal, and scientific writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial team environment.
A strong commitment to research excellence.
Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft word, spreadsheets, database searches, Adobe software, Endnote, Biorender.
Experience in project coordination.
Experience with statistical analyses.
Experience and proficiency in the scientific literature review.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrates ability to take initiative, make critical decisions, and communicate ideas effectively.
Rodent necropsy, HPLC, Immunocytochemistry, Immunohistochemistry, Immunoblotting, protein purification, and RTPCR, histopathology.
Experience multiple omics technologies
