Position overview

Salary range: INTERNAL RECRUITMENT TO UC DAVIS ONLY. The Daniel J. Dykstra Endowed Chair provides additional funding to a current UC Davis academic appointee in the Professor (Senate) series. The additional funding may support the endowed chair holder in areas of teaching, research and service directly related to the purpose of the endowment.

Position description

The holder of the Daniel J. Dykstra Endowed Chair will be a senior faculty member, Professor of Law, Step 6 or above, in the School of Law who has outstanding scholarship and teaching and is committed to the ideals of founding School of Law faculty member Dan Dykstra.

The term of the Daniel J. Dykstra Endowed Chair is for five years, unless the appointment is made to a visiting faculty member from another law school (in the country or from an international law school), with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191).

The endowment pay out will support the chair’s efforts in research, teaching and service and further the mission of the School of Law and the campus.
It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service, and advancement of diversity and equal access, unless the individual holding the chair is a visiting faculty member from another law school.

In addition, the holder of the Daniel J. Dykstra Endowed Chair is expected to:

● Engage in teaching and scholarly activities without regard to specialty area;

● Ordinarily teach a full load in the School of Law.

● Conduct research in the holder’s area of specialization and perform service to the School of Law in the spirit of the late Professor Daniel J. Dykstra and the
broader community in which it is situated.

● Provide leadership in the area of law and be fully engaged in activities in the School of Law.

● Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Tenured faculty member at Professor of Law, Step 6 or above, in the UC Davis School of Law.
