Orr Endowed Chair in Environmental Plant Sciences provides additional funding to a current UC Davis academic appointee in the ladder rank series. The additional funding may support the endowed chair holder in areas of teaching, research and outreach activities. directly related to the purpose of the endowment.

Position description

Description
The Orr Chair will support research and teaching in the area of environmental plant sciences in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. This position will further strengthen the internationally recognized research activities in this area in the college, and enhance interdisciplinary cooperation across departments. The incumbent will participate in teaching courses and curriculum development in the area of environmental plant sciences.

As there is no new FTE for this position, the Orr Chair recruitment will be internal and will recognize an outstanding tenured UC Davis faculty member in CA&ES. The maximum term of the appointment is five years and is not renewable. The incumbent is expected to submit to the dean’s office an annual report of scholarly activities related to the chair position, to organize a workshop or seminar series on campus in years two and four focused on environmental plant sciences, and present a final seminar to the campus community at the termination of the appointment.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants will be tenured members in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the associate or full Professor whose specialty is in the broad area of environmental plant sciences and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized.

• Demonstrated excellence in research and innovative approaches to scientific inquiry in environmental plant sciences.

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

• Demonstrated capability for programmatic impact and leadership.
