POSITION AVAILABLE: Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Livestock Herd Health & Reproduction:

The salary range for this position is $168,100 to $219,900. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: A veterinary medical degree (DVM or equivalent), with clinical experience and competence in applied reproduction and herd health of livestock species (cattle, sheep, goats, swine), is required. Demonstrated professional competence in reproductive techniques and herd-based medicine in livestock is required. Aptitude or experience in teaching livestock reproduction and herd health-related curricula is required. Completion of an approved residency (including alternative route) in the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT) or European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) or fellowship in reproduction with the Australia/New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by June 2025 is required; board certification is preferred. Continued appointment beyond the 4th year requires board certification. Experience in assisted reproductive techniques in livestock is preferred. Board certification in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM) or completion of a residency from an ACVPM certified training program is preferred. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work collegially in a team atmosphere aligned with the Principles of Community and faculty governance at the University of California, Davis. Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Service: The position entails a 90% clinical commitment to the Livestock Herd Health & Reproduction Service (LHHR). Clinical duties include providing ambulatory and in-house reproductive and herd health services for dairy cows, dairy goats, meat goats, sheep, beef cattle, and swine clientele, at the individual and herd level. The candidate is expected to support the expansion and advancement of assisted reproductive techniques in livestock within LHHR. The candidate will also consult with referring veterinarians, SVM colleagues, and clients to design herd programs for disease and reproductive management. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing, mentoring, and supervising veterinary medical students and house officers.

Teaching: The primary teaching responsibility, as part of the clinical effort, is the direct supervision and clinical instruction of senior veterinary students rotating in the Livestock Herd Health & Reproduction Service. Expected teaching includes clinical teaching in the VMTH and participation in the graduate clinical (house officers) training program of the VMTH. Participation in lectures, laboratories, and other didactic curriculum activities for the DVM professional program is expected.

Service: Participation in university service, public service through committee work, professional organizations, continuing education, and other appropriate means is required.

Professional Competence: The candidate must demonstrate superior clinical competence in livestock reproduction and herd health at both individual and herd levels within the VMTH. Establishing a reputation for clinical excellence locally, regionally, and nationally is expected. Recognized achievement in a focused area of clinical livestock practice is required.

Creative Scholarship: Although creative scholarship is a requirement for Health Sciences Clinical Professors, it is typically derived from clinical teaching and professional service activities. Examples of activities qualifying as creative scholarship in this track include participation in the advancement of professional education; publication of case reports or clinical reviews; development of or contributions to administration (supervision) of a clinical service; or development of or contributions to clinical guidelines or pathways.
