Position description
The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position that will begin July 1, 2025. The Assistant Teaching Professor position is a full-time Academic Senate faculty position with potential for security of employment akin to tenure. Applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching excellence in Psychology, a record of scholarship in teaching and learning (SoTL), and the potential to contribute to the scholarly, mentoring, and service missions of our Department and University. We seek applications from individuals with expertise in research-informed pedagogy to improve the inclusivity and effectiveness of instruction for all students, including those from underserved populations. Applicants from all fields of Psychology are encouraged to apply; priority will be given to those who are excited by the challenges and rewards of teaching large introductory courses.
Assistant Teaching Professors are evaluated for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor (a title with security of employment similar to tenure) no later than 8 years from the initial hire. Teaching Professors are Academic Senate faculty members whose primary responsibility is teaching and teaching-related tasks but who are also expected to engage in significant teaching-related scholarship (e.g., research on pedagogical methods) and professional activity (e.g., giving workshops). The faculty in this series also have responsibility for University and public service. Teaching Professors are expected to collaborate broadly with other faculty and engage in a spectrum of teaching-related activities that will positively impact instructional effectiveness across the entire department. This involves playing a leadership role as facilitators and initiators of instructional development, curriculum design, innovative course structure, effective teaching methods, and new educational technologies. Teaching Professors are evaluated on their (1) teaching excellence, (2) professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity in the field of pedagogy or a closely related subfield of psychology, (3) service, and (4) contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In addition to being exceptional teachers and scholars, successful candidates will help advance UC Davis’s goal of improving access and building an inclusive community for all marginalized communities. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from student communities historically excluded from higher education, including (but not limited to) individuals marginalized due to their race or ethnicity, LGBTQIA+ status, neurodiversity, veteran status, disability, economic disadvantage, first-generation scholars, and undocumented status. The successful candidate will also have a track record (calibrated to career stage) of teaching or service activities addressing the needs of individuals historically excluded from higher education, and a clear vision of how their work at UC Davis will contribute to the University’s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population.

Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent in psychology (or related field) or anticipated to be completed by July 1, 2025.
· Evidence of teaching, scholarship, and leadership relevant to successful teaching in the discipline of psychology
· Track record of and plans for future contributions to activities addressing the needs of individuals historically excluded from higher education
· Demonstrated ability or potential to develop curriculum and instruct undergraduate and graduate students
· Demonstrated ability or potential to develop a successful program of scholarship in teaching and learning in higher education that must include publishing peer-reviewed empirical articles; external funding and supporting graduate students are not required
· Demonstrated ability or potential and interest to mentor undergraduate and graduate students
· Evidence of communication and perspective-taking skills and collegiality consistent with effective departmental, campus, and professional citizenship

Include a table with a chronological list of all courses taught, a brief description of the learning objectives of each course, your role in the course (e.g., instructor of record, co-instructor, teaching assistant, etc.), and the number of students enrolled in each class.
Teaching Portfolio (upload as one pdf) - Include three examples of instructional materials you have developed (e.g., assignments and rubrics, exams, lecture materials, syllabi). Please also include a recent set of teaching evaluations from students or peers that include written comments.
