Salary range: The salary range for this position is $175,000 to $300,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The salary range listed is for base compensation only and may be adjusted depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range does not include variable compensation and is subject to the individual department compensation plan.

Position description

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis has retained Isaacson, Miller an executive search firm, to assist in the search for the Associate Dean for Research. The University of California, Davis and UC Davis Health seek a collaborative, dynamic, and strategic research leader to serve as the next Associate Dean for Research (ADR) of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Nursing, the ADR will provide leadership, vision, and integrity in the shaping of the School of Nursing research policy and training. They will play an integral part in developing the School’s research mission, fostering collaborative relationships and research initiatives across UC Davis Health, the UC Davis Office of Research, and peers in the other UC Davis colleges and schools.

ABOUT UC DAVIS HEALTH:
The University of California, Davis encompasses UC Davis Health, which comprises the UC Davis School of Medicine; the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing; UC Davis Medical Center – a nationally ranked 619-bed acute-care teaching hospital that includes the UC Davis Children’s Hospital; and the UC Davis Medical Group – a 1,000-member physician’s practice group. UC Davis Health has an annual budget of roughly $1.9 billion. With roughly 13,000 employees and students and around one million outpatient visits each year, UC Davis Health is a major contributor to the health and economy of the Sacramento region, and is a center of biomedical discoveries that help advance health around the world.

Additionally, UC Davis has one of the country’s largest telehealth networks and demonstrates UC Davis’s commitment to using technology to improve access to inpatient and outpatient specialty care, professional education, and for new models of chronic disease management that embrace self-management of one’s health. Both the School of Medicine and Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing embrace interprofessional education and have launched a shared learner model in partnership with the County of Sacramento.

UC Davis Health maintains affiliations with external institutions, including the Veterans Administration Northern California Health Care System, and the David Grant Medical Center, located at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, and the adjacent Shriners Hospital for Children of Northern California, which is ranked in the top 50 Best Children’s Hospitals in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report. It also maintains close ties to the Sacramento community through its Volunteer Clinical Faculty (VCF) program.

UC Davis Health operates as part of UC Health, which is the nation’s largest health science training program, with more than 14,000 students annually enrolled in 17 health-sciences professional education programs. In addition to Davis, UC Health operates medical centers in Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. UC Riverside is home to a new community-based medical school and UC Merced is expanding its health education opportunities to its students dedicated to serving the Central Valley. Together, the UC medical centers comprise the fourth-largest health care system in California, with $17 billion in revenue, and deliver more than 147,000 inpatient discharges, 297,000 emergency room visits, and four million outpatient visits each year.

ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR RESEARCH:
As a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, the Associate Dean for Research will play an integral role in advancing the research mission of the School of Nursing, fostering collaborative relationships across UC Davis Health and the UC Davis Office of Research, as well as building bridges with other UC Davis colleges, schools, and units. The ADR will also provide input regarding space and resource allocation for School of Nursing research initiatives. Major responsibilities for the ADR include:
• Providing leadership, vision, and integrity in the shaping of the School of Nursing’s research infrastructure, policy, and training.
• Developing programming and structures to support increased research productivity within the School, and to enhance research collaborations both within the School and externally.
• Mentoring and/or consulting with faculty on research issues and processes;
• Providing leadership and support during grant proposal development and implementation processes.
• Working with the Finance Manager and Assistant Dean for Administration to ensure compliance and coordinated financial planning.
• Serving as a liaison enhancing research collaboration and operations between the School of Nursing, the health system, and other Colleges, Schools, and Units on campus.
• Serving as the School’s Liaison to the Office of Research and Vice Chancellor of Research.
• Serving as liaison and point of contact with external agencies and
developing relationships with federal grant points of contact.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:
• An earned doctorate degree from an accredited college or university
• A history of success in an extramurally funded program of research
• An exemplary track record as an innovative leader in nursing science and/or health sciences research
• Sustained expertise in federal grant finance and compliance, and the ability to evaluate research proposals and offer feedback
• Demonstrated vision and experience in health care system designs necessary to achieve goals of an evolving health care delivery system, including the integration with education, research, and practice

• A deep appreciation and understanding of the current transitional period in health care delivery, including funding, and the concomitant challenges for current models of academic health care
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• A commitment to addressing health inequalities in underserved communities; and the ability to command the respect of students, faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as the ability to work closely with faculty in an environment of shared governance, having sensitivity to their needs given the changing dynamics of academic health care
