Position description

The Department of Dermatology at the University of California, Davis is seeking a Junior Specialist. As Junior Specialist, the candidate will assume responsibilities in assisting and conducting clinical trials research under the direction of several prinicipal investigators/faculty in the Department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
The clinical trials program in the Department has several industry sponsored clinical trials to investigate the impact and effectiveness of therapies for varous skin conditions. Researchers also have their own initiated clinical research on the impact and effectiveness of various treatment modalities, procedures, protocols and other patient related treatments.

I. Research in Specialized Areas (85% EFFORT)

The incumbent in this position will contribute to clinical research projects by:

  • Prepare documents for submission to the IRB
  • Providing and coordinating clinical studies that may involve industry sponsored Phase II, III, and IV clinical trials
  • Communicate with sponsors, research team, and IDS
  • Recruit and screen study participants
  • Coordinate participant clinical visits, and follow-up care, and ensure compliance with study protocols
  • Involves performing blood draws, processing blood samples, and assisting in occasional skin biopsies
  • Assist in all activities related to clinical trials and translational research
  • Manage datasets, records, and research documentation
  • Participate in the publication of research activities such as reviewing journal articles and presentations.
  • Working with principal investigators, participate in the publication of research including developing and submitting publications, abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Particpate in activities such as reviewing journal articles and presentations.
  • Educate and mentor volunteers and students in research acitivities as required.

II. Professional Competence and Activity (10% EFFORT)

  • Participate in appropriate professional/technical groups and other educational and research organizations. For example, attend and present at the UC Davis Epithelial Biology Club, attend the UC Davis Department of Dermatology Grand Rounds,
  • Attend and present at local and national research meetings.
  • Attend and present at local and national research meetings such as the American Academy of Dermatololgy annual meeting.

III. University and Public Service (5% EFFORT)

  • Participate in activities of Lab Safety Committee (Departmental)
  • Attend department clinical research meetings

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, or related science field.
  • Able to compile, understand and interpret data.
  • Able to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
  • Knowledge of IRB and clinical trials is preferred.
