Position Description

The purpose of the Robert M. and Natalie Reid Dorn Endowed Chair on Infancy (“Reid Dorn Chair”) is to address important issues related to infancy and child development and will provide financial support for teaching, research and outreach activities.

The successful candidate will work on multidisciplinary collaborations with scientists and practitioners who are concerned with supporting relationships that contribute to early social emotional and cognitive competence. The candidate will bridge the study of typically and atypically developing children, in the context of the family environment and be able to translate research findings into prevention and intervention strategies.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active, externally funded program of research, to publish research in top-tier journals, to actively engage in outreach activities, and to be committed to both undergraduate and graduate education in the area of early socio-emotional development.

The candidate is expected to advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of their scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service. The appointment as holder of the Reid Dorn Chair is for a period of five years and may be renewed following positive review at the campus level (APM 191, UCD 191).

Expected teaching and scholarly activities include:

• Provide innovation and leadership in research areas as outlined by the Reid Dorn chair listed above.

• Teach a normal load of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in line with department and program expectations.

• Perform service for the Department of Human Ecology and the broader campus community.

• Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.

• Be engaged in outreach/public engagement activities.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Human Ecology.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

a) Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate programs, particularly in early childhood development.

b) Documented evidence of strong research ability and innovative approaches to scientific inquiry including multidisciplinary collaborations with researchers and practitioners.

c) Demonstrated ability and willingness to conduct research and outreach in the area of socio-emotional development.
