Position description

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis, Health located in Sacramento, California, seeks to fill a full-time Academic Plastic Surgeon position with a specialty in Hand Surgery. The position is being recruited at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Health Science Clinical, Clinical X, or In-Residence series. UC Davis is a large volume Level I Trauma Hospital with an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Level I Children's Surgical Center.

The candidate selected is expected to engage in the teaching and practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery with an emphasis on plastic surgery of the hand and upper extremities; with expertise in adult brachial plexus surgery as well as toe to finger transfer, including clinical care both inpatient and outpatient; microsurgery, and basic science/translational research trials relating to reconstructive surgery and clinical outcomes. Our long-term goal is to develop a world class integrated comprehensive multidisciplinary hand service. Other services offered include Upper extremity trauma care, Limb-loss and amputee care, and Peripheral nerve decompression. To provide complete multidisciplinary care, we collaborate with our colleagues in departments across UC Davis Health – including Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Neurology, Radiology, Rheumatology, Dermatology and with our regional clinics – to provide the best available care to our referred patients.

Successful candidate will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Clinical X, In-Residence or HSCP series depending on experience and qualifications. Expectations of a Clinical X series are to engage in teaching, research, service and clinical work, appointees the In-Residence series are required to participate in teaching, research, University/public service, and patient care, and appointees of the HSCP series are to engage in clinical work, teaching and to support departments research mission. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, depending on the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree
  • Must be board certified or board eligible in Plastic Surgery
  • Have a commitment to research activity
  • All candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • Completed a fellowship in Hand Surgery
  • Obtain a California Medical License before the start date
