Position description

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for two full-time faculty in the Adjunct series at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Faculty in this series are expected to engage in research or other creative work, participate in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service. The successful candidate requires innovative and creative contributions to an active research program.

POSITION DUTIES:

RESEARCH:
Clinical and biomedical (translational) research is required in the proposed position of Adjunct Professor. This position requires scholarly work, creative ideas, and collaborative development of active research programs investigating the underlying mechanisms of heart failure phenotypes and discernment of novel clinical biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The candidates will be responsible for guiding the overall direction of the research project, writing grant proposals and manuscripts. The candidate will work to coordinate all aspects of the research, verify the experimental designs, troubleshoot experiments, and redirect work in response to new experimental findings from the laboratories and in the literature. The candidate will be directly involved in the design of the proposed biochemical, electrophysiological, biophysical, cellular, molecular, in vivo experiments, data analyses and in drafting meeting abstracts and manuscripts that will be submitted from data generated from the projects. Overall, the candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the study is making timely progress and that the integration, co-ordination and proper dissemination information is achieved.

TEACHING
The candidate will fulfill the teaching requirement by participating in the following courses: 1) CLH298, Training Program in Basic and Translational Cardiovascular Science (IOR: Drs. Nipavan Chiamvimonvat, Xiaodong Zhang and Deborah Lieu). 2) MCP298, Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Cardiac Excitability (IOR: Nipavan Chiamvimonvat), 3) Directed Reading of the Literature in Translational Science. These courses provide an overview of state-of-the-art cardiovascular research to undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral trainees. The candidate is also expected to develop a new graduate seminar series in cardiac regeneration, gene-editing technologies and/or data sciences.

UNIVERSITY SERVICE
The candidate will engage in public outreach activities that include presenting scientific research results to the general public and providing relevant advice to individuals and public agencies. The candidate will engage in University service activities such as guest lecturing and committee services.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• MD. or M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
• Has shown experience or interest in running a successful, independent, extramurally funded research program.
• Has experience or interest in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as a teacher
