Salary range: The salary range for this position is $166,400 – $187,600. Off-scale salaries and other components of pay, i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Position description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking an outstanding integrative physiologist (broadly defined) for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) to join our faculty in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Cell Biology in the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), UC Davis. Our department is a highly integrated group of faculty studying molecular, cellular, physiological, and pathophysiological mechanisms of health and disease. The candidate should have an active research program that focuses on interorgan communication using state-of-the-art approaches. We welcome research which diversifies our expertise, and/or that which complements existing strengths in gastrointestinal, neuroimmune, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory systems as well as developmental biology.
The initial screening of applications will be based on the evaluation of the candidates’ statement summarizing their research program, accomplishments, and future goals and statement summarizing experience and professional contributions in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum: Candidates must possess a PhD and have significant postdoctoral experience in physiology or a related field.

Preferred:
• Experience with grant writing and acquisition of extramural funding.
• Aptitude/experience in teaching broad-based physiology or functional anatomy to professional or graduate students.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse community.
• Experience with, or strong potential for accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research: The development of a creative, independent, and funded research program in integrated physiology is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and obtaining extramural funding. This individual will provide leadership in directing research projects of graduate students, professional students and postdoctoral scholars associated with integrative physiological research within the school and across campus.

Teaching: Candidates are expected to actively participate in the teaching mission of the School of Veterinary Medicine. Teaching responsibilities include participation in lectures, laboratories and other teaching activities in the DVM professional curriculum, graduate clinical (resident) training program, graduate education and mentoring (PhD, MS), and/or department-driven undergraduate courses on campus.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is expected.

Professional Competence: Will advance the discipline of physiology within the School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as locally and nationally. Expected to establish reputation for research excellence locally, regionally, and nationally.
