The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor beginning July 1, 2024. The Assistant Teaching Professor position is a full-time Academic Senate faculty position with potential for security of employment akin to tenure. Applicants should demonstrate a record of teaching excellence relevant to Psychology and the potential to contribute to the scholarly, mentoring, and service missions of our Department and University. We seek applications from individuals with expertise in research-informed pedagogy to improve the inclusivity and effectiveness of instruction for all students, including those from underserved populations. Assistant Teaching Professors are evaluated for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor (a title with security of employment similar to tenure) no later than 8 years from the initial hire. Teaching Professors are Academic Senate faculty members whose primary responsibility is teaching and teaching-related tasks and secondary responsibility is professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity, including creative activity, especially as they relate to instruction and pedagogy. The faculty in this series also have responsibility for University and public service. Teaching Professors also play a leadership role as facilitators and initiators of instructional development, curriculum design, innovative course structure, effective teaching methods, new educational technologies, and coordinate a spectrum of teaching activities in their departments. Teaching Professors are evaluated on their (1) teaching excellence, (2) professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity in the field of pedagogy or a closely related subfield of psychology, (3) service, and (4) contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We seek candidates with exceptional potential for teaching and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from student communities historically excluded from higher education, including (but not limited to) individuals marginalized due to their race or ethnicity, LGBTQIA+ status, veterans, individuals with disabilities, individuals from economically disadvantaged groups, first-generation scholars, and undocumented students. In addition to being exceptional scholars, successful candidates will help advance UC Davis’s goal of improving
access and building an inclusive community for all marginalized communities. The successful candidate will also have a track record (calibrated to career stage) of teaching or service activities addressing the needs of individuals historically excluded from higher education, and a clear vision of how their work at UC Davis will contribute to the University’s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population.
Applicants are required to submit a teaching statement describing their experience as well as perspectives and practices related to effective teaching, and a contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statement describing (a) their track record of engagement and activity related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as (b) their plans for future engagement (see

They must also include a statement of scholarly contributions describing their current or planned scholarly contributions program, and a teaching portfolio with example instructional materials and student evaluations.
The first round of review will focus exclusively on the teaching statement and the DEI statement. The DEI statement will be carefully read as a standalone document and should, therefore, include all relevant information related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, even if aspects are also discussed in other submitted materials. We will anonymize both statements to reduce the potential for bias based on an applicant’s identity, including their mentor(s) and university affiliations.
