Position description

Assistant Professor (In-Residence or Clinical X Series) – Surgeon Scientist

The Department of Urologic Surgery at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for a full-time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X or In-Residence series at the Assistant Professor rank as a surgeon-scientist who specializes in urologic oncology with a focus in renal cell carcinoma research. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the In-Residence series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.

The successful candidate will have strong clinical and surgical skills specializing in Urologic Oncology with an interest in developing an academic urologic oncology practice with a research focus on renal cell carcinoma. The candidate would have successfully completed a NCI T32 program by the time of start date. The candidate is expected to pursue a career development award such as a NIH K08 award. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to quality patient care, with continued academic pursuits in teaching and education, strong scholarly and creative activities with innovative research plan, and bring strong interpersonal skills of collaborating across a broad range of medical specialties. The candidate will have teaching responsibilities that include teaching and supervision of various learners such as medical students, residents, fellows, and PA/NP students. Participation in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations is expected as well as providing service to department and school committees to fulfil University and public service and scholarly and creative activity achievements.

The incumbent must foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment that fosters team science and multi-disciplinary patient care, adhere to University policies and procedures and be sensitive to the needs of patients from diverse backgrounds.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
• Completion of accredited Society of Urologic Oncology fellowship
• Board certification/eligibility in Urology
• Eligible for full and unrestricted medical licensure in the State of California
• Strong clinical and surgical skills in urologic oncology
• Strong innovative research plan and interest in urologic oncology research
• Demonstrated evidence of professional and/or scholarly achievement and activity
• Demonstrated ability or potential to establish and sustain extramurally funded research.
• Evidence of teaching experience in a diverse environment
• The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. The University will not offer sponsorship of a visa for this position.

• Strong research disciplinary focus in renal cell carcinoma.
• Excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the School of Medicine and the potential to attract extramural funding.
