Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

ACADEMIC SURGICAL PATHOLOGIST

The UC Davis Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine is seeking multiple dynamic academic physician-educators, and -investigators to grow clinical, teaching and creative programs in surgical pathology at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level in the Clinical (X) or the Health Sciences Clinical Series. Clinical duties will chiefly involve surgical pathology. Teaching duties may include clinical, didactic, and small group teaching of housestaff and medical students, interdisciplinary conferences to housestaff and faculty, and curriculum development in subspecialty areas. Participation in the research mission of the institution is expected, either as a collaborator or as the intellectual leader of clinically-oriented research projects pertinent to the candidate’s areas of expertise and subspecialty training, depending on academic series chosen for appointment.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Must have an MD or MD/PhD.
  • Must be board-eligible or certified in anatomic pathology.
  • A California professional license or eligibility for licensure in California is required.
  • At least one year of experience teaching is required.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others are required.
  • The candidate must have two to five years’ experience in a clinical or academic setting that includes clinical care, teaching and research that would meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in one of the University of California’s clinically-intensive academic series
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • A sub-specialty focus is required. Head and neck pathology and endocrine pathology training are highly desirable. Other sub-specialty training and/or experience in gynecologic pathology, breast/thoracic pathology, pediatric pathology and/or cytopathology are also being sought. A sub-specialty fellowship must be completed by June 30, 2024.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
  • Other subspecialty training and experience in informatics, molecular-anatomic, and/or quality improvement, also will be considered.
