ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR
PATHOLOGY RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The University of California (UC), Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is recruiting an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the non-tenure track Health Sciences Clinical Professor or Clinical X series to serve as Residency Program Director for its integrated Anatomic/Clinical Pathology training program. There are currently 12 funded resident positions with capacity to expand to 16. Located in beautiful northern California with abundant recreation, the residency program attracts applicants nationwide due to the diverse patient population within a broad 33-county catchment area, complexity of specimens from the UC Davis NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, strong subspecialty services, focus on balancing service, education, and wellness; outstanding research opportunities, and interactions with fellows in five sub-specialty pathology fellowships. Rotations are primarily at UC Davis Medical Center with other core rotations at the VA Northern California Health Care System at Mather.

Residency Program Director responsibilities (40% effort) include but are not limited to: program administration, evaluation, accreditation and compliance; curriculum development; and resident recruitment, selection, mentoring and discipline. The Residency Program also employs an Associate Residency Program Director and a Program Coordinator, which provides support to the Program Director. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide approximately (50-60%) clinical services in anatomic and/or clinical pathology based on subspecialty training and experience, as well as clinical and didactic teaching of housestaff, medical students, and other learners. Collaborative participation in the research and creative mission is expected, and can include educational scholarship and health services research.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Must have an MD, DO, MD/PhD or DO/PhD
  • Must be board certified in anatomic and/or clinical pathology
  • Must have five years clinical practice experience
  • The ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment and excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others are all required.
  • The candidate must have an appropriate record of accomplishment in clinical care, teaching and research to meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level in the University of California’s clinically-intensive academic Health Sciences Clinical Professor or Clinical X faculty series.
  • California professional license or eligibility for licensure in California is required.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
  • Experience leading a residency or fellowship training program as director or associate director is preferred.
