Division of Neonatology / Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Medical Director

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is launching a national search for one full-time academic neonatology faculty clinician-scientist or clinician-educator, who will also serve as our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Medical Director.

This position will be open to Associate/Full Professor level candidates (commensurate with credentials) in the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. The ideal candidate will have experience with interpretation of quality data and implementation of quality and process improvement initiatives. The medical director will lead a highly collaborative team and build upon a strong program including excellent clinical nurse specialists and clinical nurse educators with regularly scheduled clinical consensus and complex patient meetings.

Candidates will be expected to participate in clinical care, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, scholarly and/or research activities of the Department of Pediatrics, and serve on departmental committees.

With more than 120 physicians in 33 pediatric subspecialties, the UC Davis Children's Hospital is a 118-bed hospital housed within the 619-bed University of California, Davis Medical Center. It is the only designated Children's Hospital in the Sacramento region, and is known for offering comprehensive, compassionate, family-centered care. The Children’s Hospital has a Level IV 49- bed Neonatal Unit with an ACGME accredited fellowship program in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine. The Children’s Hospital provides a full complement of pediatric sub-specialty care including pediatric and cardiovascular surgery, as well as ECLS. The UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) is a major biomedical research facility located on the Sacramento campus with general and NIH funded programs. The main UC Davis campus, located in Davis CA, has a world-renowned school of veterinary medicine, a primate center and an impressive breadth of basic scientists who enjoy collaboration with clinicians. Candidates must have the following experience/qualifications:
• M.D. or D.O.
• Successful completion of an approved pediatric residency training program
• Successful completion of an approved Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship
• Board certification in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine
• Eligibility for a California Medical License
• Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment
• Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain extramurally funded research programs
• Experience mentoring junior faculty and fellows in scholarly activities and research projects
