Position description

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in molecular, cell and developmental biology.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Research and lab maintenance (80%):
The position will include interdisciplinary studies focusing on conducting high throughput microscopy based screens and data analysis using the yeast model system to probe determinants responsible for inner membrane organization. The candidate will design strain construction and high content image analysis pipeline, including utilization of machine learning algorithms. The position requires strong background in yeast genetics, microscopy and image analysis.
Service (10%):
The candidate will provide mentorship for undergraduate students in the lab and provide basic training and maintaining lab stocks and databases.
Professional Competence (10%):
The candidate will summarize data and help prepare figures for publication.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree in biochemistry, cell biology or a related field with a minimum of two years experience in related laboratory research. Experience handling and engineering yeast cells and in imaging is essential. Must have experience performing live yeast cell fluorescent microscopy and subsequent quantitative analysis in addition to basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and bioinformatics skills. Must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data to archive, label and data for publication, proposals and presentations. Must be familiar with ordering laboratory supplies. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, responsible individual with strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $44,500 [100% annual] or Step II - $47,400 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Maximum one year appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 75%.
