Position description

The Department of Cinema and Digital Media at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a lecturer position to teach CTS / DRA 174, Acting for the Camera during Spring Quarter of the 2019-2020 school year (3/26/2020 – 6/11/2020). A lecturer teaches a three-hour studio class twice a week and holds regular office hours for his or her students. The course is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, 1:10-4:00pm.

Acting for the Camera covers the analysis and practice of acting skills required for camera work and digital media. The course is comprised of acting and film production students who gain hands-on practice in the skills of acting and directing actors. The course may cover any of the following: scene work, improvisation, auditioning, preparing and assessing portfolio materials such as headshot and reel.

Qualifications include:

• An appropriate terminal degree; e.g., MFA, Ph.D., or equivalent training and professional experience.
• Demonstrated teaching ability and experience.
• A developing record of creative, scholarly, or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area described in this announcement.

This is a non-tenured, temporary position: the appointments to the title of Lecturer are self-terminating (no further notice on non-reappointment will be forthcoming) and do not create an obligation on the part of the University either to extend or renew the appointment outlined above. Any reappointment will be preceded by an assessment.

Proof of citizenship or eligibility for US employment required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986).

This position is subject to UC policy and is covered by a collective bargaining unit.
