Position description

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist.

The Junior Specialist will support the development and implementation of a heart failure clinical translational research precision platform.

Successful candidates will actively participate in the platform; an integrated, longitudinal, clinical, molecular and sensor-based cardiovascular assessment tool to support precision Heart Failure Medicine.

General responsibilities include: Developing and working on the research projects of the Complex Care Laboratory under the direction of the principal investigator Dr. Cadeiras. The Junior Specialist will be assigned to the Precision Platform for Heart Failure study as well as its Telehealth substudy and will be responsible for coordinating the research implementation of these studies by recruiting heart failure patients, collecting data for the clinical studies as well as supporting the writing of literature reviews, methodology, study-design, and results for manuscripts and grant proposals. Specifically, the Junior Specialist will participate in the automatic curation of the heart failure clinical, imaging, and molecular data obtained from Electronic Medical Records (EMR), mobile devices, and other publicly available databases as well as in the evaluation of telemonitoring solutions for heart failure patients. Additional responsibilities will include the elaboration of progress reports related to these studies.

University and Public Service:
1) May maintain liaison and respond to the needs of various industry and venture organizations, state and federal agencies, and other external groups on issues related to heart failure clinical translational research precision platform.
2) Participate in activities of committees within the department, college, campus and other University entities, as appropriate.
3) Interact with patient advocacy organizations and organize local patient meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or in a related field [with a minimum of two-year experience in laboratory and/or field research.

Excellent communication, social and organizational skills and the ability to work in teams effectively and interact with others are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of medical terminology and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Protocol writing involving human subjects. Collaboration with personnel affiliated with research activities involving literature review, proposal writing, patient enrollment, research implementation including support of remote monitoring implementation, bio-specimen procurement and bio-banking, supporting sample processing, data gathering, review, analysis and reporting. Reporting on activities and evaluating performance in research activities is subject to the applicable individual project.

Salary:
Step I - $39,500 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT:
Short-term 2-year maximum Non-Exempt appointment, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
