Position description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Davis seeks to recruit a pool of qualified candidates for one or more Project Scientist positions. We aim to recruit an outstanding individuals with the appropriate background and/or experience capable of interacting with our many collaborators and working without supervision. Candidates should have a PhD in engineering, the physical sciences, or related field. A broad range of skills in plasma physics, microwave vacuum electronics, and millimeter wave techniques/instrumentation, good interpersonal and organization skills, and strong communication (oral and written) skills are required. Candidates should have 1-3 years of post-PhD experience.

The position is funded by multiple extramural grants addressing topics related to fusion plasma physics, millimeter wave and near-THz vacuum electron beam sources, passive radiometric and active radar reflectometric millimetric imaging, and millimeter wave instrument development It is anticipated that approximately 70-90% of the time will be spent designing and implementing original
research experiments, assisting in the creation of new grant applications, and writing original manuscripts. The remaining 10-30% of the time will be devoted to the organization and management of the lab, which will include participation in the daily activities of the lab including maintenance of equipment, and training
of other researchers (e.g., graduate students) in the scientific method as well as millimeter wave instrumentation techniques (e.g., network analysis). Renewal of the contract will be contingent upon the availability of adequate funding and performance.
