Description

Post Doctoral Scholar position in the Department of Plant Sciences to develop methods using technical expertise, analyze data and provide recommendations for the US Fish and Wildlife Waterbird Habitat Assessment Protocol. This position will include analysis of existing refuge field data on vegetation and habitat management and collection of additional data at National Wildlife Refuges throughout the Central Valley of California from June to October 2019. The project is a collaboration between Dr. Emilio Laca and the Refuges Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) Program, including the Central Valley & Klamath Basin Zone Biologist, the Data Management team, and I&M student interns at CSU, Sacramento.

This is a one year position starting as early as January 2019. This position is covered by a collective bargaining unit. It has a starting annual starting salary of $49,188 plus a full benefits package.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Ecology, Biometry or related field. Strong quantitative skills as demonstrated by coursework, publications or other works. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of R for statistical modeling and analysis. Familiarity with vegetation survey sampling methods highly desirable. Physical ability to work in wetland field conditions at National Wildlife Refuges, with tall vegetation in the summer heat. Experience in use and analysis of high-resolution remote sensing data is a plus, but not required. Driver's license is required.
