Dr. Susan Rivera at the Center for Mind and Brain seeks to fill a full-time position at the Junior Specialist level starting January 2019. This position is for up to one year with the possibility of extension to two years. The successful candidate will work on studies examining neurocognitive development and will be involved in publishable research activities, including reviewing journal articles, engaging in discussions on research and the interpretation of research results, independent analysis of data, interpretation of empirical results, and the writing up of results for publication in scholarly journals. Where appropriate, the individual would be first author of these publications. The person hired is also expected to create materials for and present research (where appropriate, as first author) at national and international conferences.
Responsibilities will include:
Developing of research materials (10%)
Develop experimental stimuli and other research materials using Presentation software, Matlab, and other software and programming environments. These duties involve creative and scholarly input which will have a direct impact on the experimental design—for example, making decisions about the features and counterbalancing of stimuli.
Activities Related to the Dissemination of Research (15%)
Participate in weekly discussions of relevant literature, and conduct literature reviews relevant to the work being conducted
Attend conferences to present the results of the research.
Conduct independent data analysis.
Contribute to the writing and preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Undergraduate research assistant training and mentoring (20%)
Train and mentor undergraduate students on data collection, coding and analyses protocols. This will provide a university service in that they will be actively facilitating the participation of undergraduate students in research activities.
Conducting research (30%)
Testing child and adult research participants, using both eye tracking and brain imaging techniques
Interviewing and consenting participants or their caregivers.
Maintenance of budgets, ordering supplies, and overseeing day-to-day running of the lab.
Preparing and maintaining IRB materials and ensuring compliance with those protocols.
Preparing figures and text for presentation at research conferences and for manuscripts to be submitted for publication.
Position qualifications include:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. A driving license in Good standing. Availability to work flexible job hours.
Preferred: Previous research experience in infrared eyetracking and neuroscience techniques
Salary: Step I - $3,291/month
