The position will focus on characterization of the budding yeast SPB in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
RESEARCH IN SPECIALIZED AREAS (90%) - The candidate will design and assist with experiments using molecular biology, microscopy, genetics, and biochemistry techniques. This position requires strong cell and molecular biology skills to successfully execute these experiments. The candidate will then summarize data and assist with preparation of figures and writing of manuscripts for publication, as well as assist in writing and reviewing grant proposals. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, responsible individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate will publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, books and other outlets either independently or in collaboration with the PI or other members of the research team. The candidate will assist in writing applications for funding from federal and state agencies and other funding organizations. The candidate will prepare and/or assist in the preparation of reports as required by granting agencies.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (10% EFFORT)
The candidate will participate in professional societies and conferences appropriate to his/her specific field and will serve as a reviewer of research proposals and scientific publications as appropriate. The candidate will attend seminars to present research results and may give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups.
When appropriate, the candidate may coordinate and/or give presentations at seminars, laboratory meetings or educational functions.
