Description

The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the UC Davis is seeking a full-time Assistant Researcher in Genetics. The position is with the test development section of the laboratory and oversees a research program in veterinary genetics that augments the existing genetic testing service portfolio of the unit. The position involves serving as a scientific leader to ensure that VGL offers relevant, state-of-the-art genetic testing services that integrate current research results. The Researcher is expected to provide leadership, facilitate teamwork, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues and provide input into activities that reach the service, research and educational mission of the unit.

Ph.D. in Animal Genetics or Genomics is required. Documented research experience in Animal genetics or genomics in multiple species. The candidate must demonstrate ability to collect, analyze and interpret data, to write sufficiently well for publication of results and provide evidence of the following skills: successful completion of scientific projects, presenting research findings at professional meetings, or conferences and knowledge of bioinformatic analysis.

The role of the Assistant Researcher position is to work under the general direction of both the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory's (VGL) Director and Associate Director of Test Development to oversee a research program in veterinary genetics. The candidate is required to develop a research program in veterinary genetics that translates into the development of novel tests and testing methodologies. The candidate will serve as a scientific leader to ensure that VGL offers relevant, state-of-the-art genetic testing services that integrate current research results. The Assistant Researcher will maintain and develop collaborative research programs with faculty affiliated with VGL including investigators within the UC system and other national/international research institutions to encourage application of scientific discovery. In addition to leading a research program that augments test development the candidate must participate in appropriate professional societies and educational organizations and will perform other duties that contribute to the educational and outreach components of the unit's mission.
