The Nansen Lab (http://chrnansen.wix.com/nansen2) is seeking postdoctoral candidates for a full-time position to be hosted at UC Davis.
The incumbent will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team devoted to develop and promotion of hyperspectral imaging as a diagnostic tool of insects and plants. This team involves collaborators from computer science and aerospace engineering. The main responsibilities include the following expectations: 1) provide technical suggestions to improvement of hardware (especially lighting and sample processing) used to acquire hyperspectral imaging from insects and plants, and 2) Develop machine learning procedures to optimize data processing and classification.
Additionally, the incumbent is expected to: 1) provide constructive inputs to a wide range of other research projects within the Nansen Lab, 2) assist with supervision of undergraduate and graduate students from engineering and computer science, 3) draft and develop grant proposals, and 4) publish peer-reviewed journal articles. This position offers ample opportunities for candidates with an engineering background to provide significant contributions to the unfolding “revolution” and emergence of “digital agriculture”.
This position requires a recent Ph.D. Practical and published research experience with image processing and classification is also a requirement. Experience with electrical engineering, optical engineering, robotics, machine vision based automation, and bioinformatics will also count strongly in the assessment of candidates.
