The Genome Center at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for a Project Scientist position.
This position is expected to work independently, making significant and creative contributions to collaborative research and method development in collaboration with the Director and clients of the Genome Center’s Proteomics Core Facility. Collaborators may include UC Davis faculty and staff, and off-campus scientists. Method development will be in multiple areas, including sample preparation, quantitative proteomics, mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography and data analysis. Examples of cutting edge proteomic methodologies may include quantitative proteomic profiling using TMT mass tags, data independent acquisition and targeted proteomic applications.
It is expected that the applicant will train Core Facility personnel and collaborative customers through workshops and individual training.
All collaborative research will be published in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to the specific projects in collaboration with the core director and collaborative research investigators. The incumbent will also assist in writing proposals for extramural funding
The appointee will participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations and review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications, and make presentations related to area of expertise. The candidate may maintain liaison and respond to the needs of various industry organizations, state and federal agencies, university academic federation committee memberships and other external groups on issues related to the area of expertise.
The UC Davis Genome Center coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Annual funding is approximately $21 million from multiple sources.
The Proteomics Core of the UC Davis Genome center is a fast paced technologically driven state-of the art laboratory that provides cutting edge mass spectrometry based proteomic and protein services along with amino acid analysis and Edman sequencing to the UC Davis campus and off campus customers. The Proteomics core provides services that include but are not limited to; protein mining, expression profiling, protein interaction analysis, and protein identification using nano-scale ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
