Description

The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology invites applications for a full-time academic position in the Assistant or Associate Adjunct series. This is a self-supported position.

The successful candidate should have research interests aimed at elucidating molecular mechanisms of cardiac electrophysiology using multi-scale approaches: from ion channel regulation and pharmacology through cellular electrophysiology, calcium imaging and tissue level electrocardiography and contractile function. A specific focus will be given to those integrating experimental and computational approaches for understanding these processes and how they are disrupted in cardiac disease. The candidate must have research training, publications and grant funding, as well as a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively as a teacher. Abilities to continue a successful, independent, extramurally funded research program and to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment are also required for this position.

The incumbent will be expected to engage in studies that are team-based and multi-disciplinary, at the intersection of biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology, computer modeling and physiology, enabling a wide range of possible collaborations and high-level research training for students with diverse backgrounds. The incumbent will be expected to adhere to policies and procedures, and leadership experience and abilities. University service is required for all series.

Basic qualifications for this position are as follows:

  • Candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree, and at least five years of productive postdoctoral experience.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary research efforts.
  • Teaching experience with undergrad, graduate and medical students and awards
  • Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in team-based and multi-disciplinary work at the intersection of biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and physiology, enabling a wide range of possible collaborations and high-level research training for students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Candidate must have expertise computational modelling of ion channel biology, ionic homeostasis, and cardiac myocyte signaling, through to continuum models of electroconduction and ionic diffusion.
  • Candidate must have at least 5 years’ experience in all configurations of the patch-clamp technique, measurements of local and global calcium signal, and extensive experience in isolating myocardial tissue preparations and individual cardiac myocytes from multiple species.

Preferred criteria in the consideration of applications are:

  • At least 5 years of experience in research centered in biomedical/pharmacological significance that can lead to better understanding of mechanisms regulating cardiac electrophysiology.
  • At least a 5-year record of excellence, creativity and initiative in research which establishes a strong potential to build a vigorous and competitive research program.
  • A clear record of integrating experimental and computational approaches to addressing key questions in cardiac electrophysiology and pharmacology in a quantitative and comprehensive manner.
