The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track, Assistant Professor position that includes the expectation of mission-oriented research and outreach relevant to the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES).

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics is seeking applicants that focus on environmental economics. Appropriate areas of focus include, but are not limited to: environmental regulation, non-market valuation, environmental policy, environmental justice, water quality, air quality, climate change, ecosystem service provision, and environment and human capital. The successful candidate will coordinate with existing departmental colleagues who have expertise in one or more of these areas, agricultural economics, development economics, econometrics and/or resource economics.

The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in environmental economics to address critical or emerging societal issues in the economics of agriculture, the environment, natural resources, and international economic development. The appointee will be responsible for teaching at undergraduate, MS., and Ph.D. levels. At the graduate level, the successful candidate will be expected to teach M.S. and Ph.D. courses related to environmental economics. Teaching responsibilities will be set at the departmental average of two to three quarter-length courses, taking rank into account, and will be set by the department chair based upon departmental needs and the successful candidate’s interests/expertise. Potential courses include undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental economics (e.g., ARE 176 Environmental Economics, ARE 275 Economic Analysis of Resource and Environmental Policies, and ARE 276A-B Environmental Economics) and core courses for the undergraduate or graduate programs (e.g. 100A-B Intermediate Microeconomic Theory, ARE 106 Econometric Theory and Applications, ARE 155 Operations Research and Management Science, ARE 204A-B Microeconomic Analysis or ARE 202A-B-C Applied Microeconomics, among others. Other responsibilities include student advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to work with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied industries or other appropriate public stakeholders.

This recruitment is conducted at the assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications:
Evidence for meeting these criteria includes but is not limited to: experience, candidate application and statements, letters of recommendation, and interview (if invited).

Basic Qualification:
• At time of hire a Ph.D. or equivalent in economics, agricultural economics, or a closely related discipline, including thorough training in econometrics and economic theory

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated expertise and research interest in environmental economics
• Demonstrated or potential ability to develop a distinguished research program that results in publications in high-quality refereed journals
• Demonstrated ability or potential to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and to present information to scientific audiences
• Demonstrated ability or potential and interest to advise undergraduates in the Managerial Economics major
• Demonstrated ability or potential and interest to mentor M.S. and Ph.D. students in the Agricultural and Resource Economics graduate program
• Interest, understanding, and commitment to contributing to diversity. Demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity and inclusion of groups that are underrepresented in the academy through extension education, research, and/or service would be a plus.
o Statements of Contributions to Diversity will be assessed by their general quality and the candidates’ awareness of, contributions toward, and plans for future efforts related to diversity and inclusion
• Demonstrated ability or potential and interest to work with peers in the department, on campus, and in Cooperative Extension to meet the land grant mission of the University and the Agricultural Experiment Station

Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
