The Ji lab in the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis is currently seeking a Junior Specialist, 43% time for duration of 12 months.
This position will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on nutrition and neuroimmunology using animal models. Successful candidate will be trained for skillsets corresponding to PI’s research theme and significantly involved in publishable research activities, which may include but not limit to: assist PI in study design; conduct animal experiments using agricultural (i.e. piglet) and/or lab animal species; write research protocols; Develop and perform lab trials and analysis; and contribute to writing scholarly manuscripts. Candidate for the position are also expected to assist PI in mentoring undergraduate interns and manage active animal care protocols (IACUC). Successful candidate may have opportunity to present research in regional conference. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Bachelor degree in one of the listed majors (Nutrition science; Cell biology; Neurobiology, physiology and behavior; or Biological Science).
• Able to work independently after training
• Stay being organized at work.
• Keep to schedules and deadlines.
• Basic lab skills (use pipette, centrifuge, etc.).
• Good at following protocols and maintain research records.
• Proficient in Microsoft suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
• Feel comfortable handle multitasks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (OPTIONAL):
• Any advanced lab skillsets listed is preferred (RNA/DNA extraction, quantitative RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, operating fluorescent microscope, cell culture)
• Scientific writing skills
SALARY RANGE: Step I - $18.92 hourly or Step II - $20.16 hourly, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Short term, 43% time for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension to 24 months.
