The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in molecular, cell and developmental biology.

Research (95%):
This position will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on insect’s molecular basis of olfaction and taste. The candidate will clone odorant, ionotropic, and gustatory receptors, perform gene silencing experiments, measure behavior of phenotypes, isolate chemical attractants and stimulants from natural sources, purify and identify active ingredients, and test isolated or authentic compounds in laboratory and field assays. The candidate will summarize data, prepare figures, and assist writing manuscripts for publication and grant proposals.

University Service and Professional Development (5%): The candidate will present their research in weekly laboratory meetings. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate will spend time in laboratory mentoring role for undergraduate students.

Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, entomology, cell biology, or neurophysiology and behavior, with experience in mosquito biology and olfaction/taste. Must be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data and to archive, label and document graphic and tabular data for publication, proposals, and/or presentations.

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $39,500 or Step II- $42,100 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Short term, maximum one-year appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
