The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of California, Davis invites applications for one Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The postdoctoral scholar will work on a project focused the biochemical and structural properties of proteins associated with motile cilia. The Winey lab uses microscopy, biochemistry, and cell biology of Tetrahymena thermophila as a powerful system to uncover components, structures, and functions important for cilia integrity. Postdocs will be expected to be comfortable with recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning, and performing and developing biochemical assays. Additional duties and responsibilities include impeccable organization of notes, data, and analysis, presentation of data at weekly lab meetings, and basic lab maintenance jobs. Candidates will have the opportunity to mentor graduate or undergraduate students in the lab.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or related field, and must have proven productivity with at least one first author publication. In addition, the applicant should be proficient in recombinant protein expression and purification methods and performing biochemical analyses. It is preferable that the successful applicant has experience with either 1) microtubule binding assays or 2) cryo-ET or EM. Finally, the applicant should be well versed in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and a graphing program such as Prism or R. The applicant must be attentive and reliable with various modes of communication and must have the motivation to pursue and drive a project independently. Candidates should be willing to apply for independent funding.
SALARY RANGE: $49,188-$59,736 Level 0-5 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.
