Position description

The University of California, Davis School of Medicine is launching a national search for a Division Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine to lead our Division of 12 pediatric intensive care faculty. The UC Davis Children’s Hospital is currently the only ACS Verified Children’s Surgery Center in California, is the regions only Level I Trauma Center, and provides the full spectrum of multidisciplinary care with access to all pediatric subspecialty services. The PICU is a combined 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The PICU provides care to more than 1,800 annual admissions, and participates in several academic, clinical and research projects, including one of the largest telemedicine programs in the country that provides critical care consultations to many community hospitals in Northern California and beyond.

The position is open at the Associate/Full Professor rank (commensurate with credentials) in the Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical care, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, and administrative duties relevant to the Division. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to contribute in research activities of the Department of Pediatrics and serve on departmental committees. Dedicated research time will be provided for a Division Chief in a research promotional track.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Provide care for pediatric critical care patients at UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital for Children
• Act as a consultant to other services as needed
• Research and publication training including grant funding (if applicable)
• Teach medical students, pediatric residents and fellows
• Provide both formal didactic sessions and clinical supervision for students and housestaff
• Participate in section and departmental meetings, conferences, as well as hospital and departmental committees

The candidates must have the following experience/qualifications:
• M.D. or D.O.
• Successful completion of an approved pediatric residency training program
• Successful completion of an approved pediatric critical care fellowship program
• Board certifications in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
• Eligibility for a California Medical License
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in clinical care, education, and administrative roles
• Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment

The UC Davis Children's Hospital is based on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, California and serves a population of over 1 million children in the Northern California Central Valley. Sacramento is an easily accessible, family-oriented city in close proximity to the San Francisco Bay area, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the California coast, and Napa Valley.

This recruitment is conducted at the Associate/Full Professor rank. The resulting hire will be at the Associate/Full rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
