Position description

The College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for Junior Specialist positions. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in degree in biomedical engineering, engineering, neurobiology or related field, or equivalent research experience.

A successful candidate should have experience in using existing data in the lab and applying cutting edge computational approaches to the analysis of the data. They will work with the PI to become familiar with the existing data structures and computational approaches and design hypothesis driven research questions to analyze the data that provide new understanding of the systems under study. They will also identify creative way to address any need for revision of experimental protocols. A candidate in this position is expected to collect, organize, and present data, engage in lab meetings and discussions on research, and assist in the interpretation and publication of those data. The candidate will be mentored regarding career paths in academia or industry and receive support to present data at conferences and contribute to the publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in advanced computational skills including Matlab, C++, JAVA and/or python. Candidate should have the ability to follow health, chemical, and safety guidelines and instructions. Candidate should have the ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines and to flexibility to accommodate changes in projects as the need arises. Candidates who are seeking future advanced degrees in the neurosciences or related field are preferred.
