Position description

Under the general direction of the Director of International English and Professional Programs (IEPP), the Academic Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of a large and academically diversified set of ESL programs, with an approximate revenue of $4 million. The AC II supervises up to 15 full-time contract teachers as well as 5 to 25 part-time, by agreement, teachers. The Academic Coordinator II will specifically manage and oversee the Intensive English and Culture and Communication Programs. The 10-week Intensive English Program (IEP) is offered on a quarterly basis throughout the year with typical enrollment for of 200-300 year-round. The 4-week Culture and Communication Program (CCP) currently runs sessions in Winter and Summer, for a total of four months, with a total enrollment of 400-500. The AC II may also provide oversight of components of other short-term programs as needed.

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for program agreements for institutional partners which send students to IEPP programs. This involves working to ensure a coherent curriculum with customized components, as well as taking into account the institutional requirements of the sending institution. The Academic Coordinator pro-actively solves issues in the on-going management of these programs by meeting with interested parties (students, faculty, staff, overseas clients, etc.), analyzing factors, working out short term fixes and communicating solutions to all concerned. The Academic Coordinator is also expected to contribute towards building and adding to existing programs, with excellent service and programming in a process of continuous improvement.

The success of these programs depends greatly on excellent curricula and strong support for the many instructors who are hired to implement them. Courses are offered at different levels of proficiency and close coordination across the curriculum and within the level/section is necessary. The Academic Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that contract and by-agreement instructors are meeting the standards of the program and the curriculum is being implemented. The Academic Coordinator assists the Director to recruit all contract and by-agreement instructors working within the IEP and CCP. The AC II is also directly responsible for ongoing supervision of all instructors working in the IEP and CCP.

Under the general direction of the Director of International English and Professional Programs, the Academic Coordinator is responsible for the financial success of the Intensive English Program and the Communications and Culture Program. The Academic Coordinator must deliver programs that are financially appropriate within the financial framework of the International English and Professional Programs. The Academic Coordinator may be assigned to develop and implement other contracts or programs within the unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Master’s degree in TEFL, Applied Linguistics or closely related subject
-At least 2 years of successful direct supervisory experience of instructors in a college or university ESL or EAP program
-At least 3 years of teaching experience in a college or university ESL or EAP program
-Record of innovative creative program development and program assessment
-Proven expertise in curriculum development, using current best practices
-Proven experience with and knowledge of up-to-date educational technology
-Successful experience with proposal writing and developing proposal budgets
-Outstanding professional, cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
-Diploma or Certificate in TEFL from a recognized provider, such as CELTA, DELTA etc.
-Experience with CEA accreditation
-A completed PhD would be an advantage

Appointment/Compensation:
This is a full-time academic term appointment with an initial 1-year appointment, eligible for continued reappointment. Hiring salary range: $65,904-$128,376. Placement within hiring range commensurate with qualifications and experience. UC Davis Extension is unable to sponsor a work visa (H-1B) to fill this position. Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.
