Position description

The Mackenzie lab in the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis is currently seeking a Junior Specialist, 100% time for duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension.
This position will be involved in several types of research studies, including (1) efficacy, effectiveness, and evaluations of the effects of nutrition and other environmental factors on cancer development in cell culture models, and (2) animal cohort studies assessing the effect of select diets on cancer development. Successful candidates will also participate in preparing and managing grants and IACUC protocols; designing experiments, preparing forms and manuals for data collection in field studies; conducting literature searches on specific topics and extracting data from published studies for systematic reviews and meta-analyses; performing statistical analyses of existing data and writing papers; training, mentoring, and coordinating undergraduate interns, and coordinating lab collaborations with other investigators.
Potential candidate should possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience, e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, software programs, social science research methods, humanities scholarship, or creative activities.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate will have the opportunity to present their research work at national meetings in the areas of cancer and nutrition.
