The Coordinator has primary responsibility for designing and implementing professional development in history and social sciences for K12 teachers in low-performing schools served by the History Project (HP; http://historyproject.ucdavis.edu ). The Coordinator reports to and receives general direction from the Director, but works with a great deal of independence. In addition, the Coordinator works closely with the Director in the development and oversight of the full range of HP programming for the greater Sacramento region. This is a fiscal year appointment.
According to the authoring legislation, the Coordinator provides support for (a) the development of teachers’ history and social science content knowledge and pedagogical skills to implement state content standards and curricular framework; (b) the improvement of history and social science education in low-performing schools, and (c) the development of long term school-university partnerships focused on the teaching of the discipline and the improvement of student achievement.
The UC Davis site is one of five sites in the California History Social Science Project (CHSSP; http://csmp.ucop.edu/chssp), programs in the California Subject Matter Projects administered by the University of California Office of the President (CSMP; http://csmp.ucop.edu). The Davis site currently serves as both a local CHSSP site and the executive office of the CHSSP.
