Position description

The Department of Neurology, at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine is seeking a PhD or MD/PhD for a full time faculty research position as an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (Regular or In Residence series) of Neuroimmunology.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A PhD or MD/PhD with advanced training in immunology, neuro-immunology, or inflammation is required. Experience in stem cell based therapies for treating neurological disorders is desirable-particularly if referable to CNS demyelinative disorders. Teaching experience including education of medical students, residents, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral research and clinical fellows regarding neuroimmunological disorders and therapeutics is required. Research experience including the development of a creative, independently funded and collaborative research program in neuroimmunity and neuroinflammation is required.

UC Davis is a highly collaborative environment and candidates must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills that foster team research efforts. Collaboration with the department’s MS director of clinical trials is required.

The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required. In addition, the ability to adhere to University policies and procedures is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching responsibilities include: 1) Education of medical students, residents, pre- and post-doctoral research and clinical fellows regarding neuroimmunological disorders and therapeutics; 2) instruction of undergraduate medical students, residents, pre- and post-doctoral fellows, and physicians in fundamental and translational aspects of neuroimmunity; and 3) lectures in graduate academic programs pertaining to neuroimmunology, neurotherapeutics, and principles of general immunology.

Research responsibilities include developing a creative, independent and collaborative productive research program in neuroimmunity and neuroinflammation, including primary authorship in publications in professional/scientific journals. The individual will provide leadership in directing research projects of graduate students. Candidates are expected to develop and maintain a strong extramurally funded research program in neuroimmunobiology at UC Davis.

Service responsibilities include University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required, as required by rank.
