The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist – two positions are available. These positions will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in Health, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities/Psychology, Computer Sciences and Biological Sciences.

The Junior Specialist will provide support in lab/field experiments which includes quantitative cross sectional and longitudinal volumetric analysis on human brain MRI images using software developed in the laboratory. The applicant will also perform region specific volumetric brain analysis which will include the hippocampus and other regions of interest. Engage in research activity for academic publications which includes meeting with PI, research team to discuss current and future research projects. Contribute to the drafting/editing of manuscripts, grant proposals, research reports and summarization of data collection to produce academic publications for peer reviewed journals. Contribute to drafting statistical reports and analysis for presentations at professional conferences which will include drafting and editing research reports for appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations.

Successful candidates will also participate in bi-weekly meetings at the IDeA Lab and will be required to attend a monthly Clinical and Pathological conference at the Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center, in Sacramento. The candidate will also be required to attend to other talks given by faculty, both on and off campus throughout the year, which will discuss current and ongoing research projects.

The ideal candidates will have strong interpersonal, communication and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

The position requires a Bachelor degree in NPB (neurobiology, physiology, and behavior), biological sciences, biochemistry, psychology, or a related field. Ability to work well with and communicate with others is required. Knowledge of excel spreadsheets is required. Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating systems would be helpful, but not required. Background in neurobiology/neuroanatomy is a plus.

SALARY RANGE: Step I - $17.99 [100% hourly] or Step II - $19.18 [100% hourly], commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments are made contingent upon availability of funding. The position will remain open until June 30, 2018 to accommodate department needs.

This position is a short term, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
