The Department of Neurological Surgery is inviting applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (50% Tenure Track; 50% In Residence). We seek an outstanding candidate who studies fundamental mechanisms of neural function/dysfunction and works broadly in the areas of CNS injury and repair, translational neuroscience (e.g., traumatic brain injury, epilepsy), and/or analysis of neural circuitry. The Neurological Surgery Department’s research programs are currently focused on traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, stem cell biology and neuromodulation of brain activity, including deep brain stimulation. Individuals with interests and/or skills that can contribute to or enhance these areas of research are encouraged to apply.
A Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent, and postdoctoral experience in an appropriate discipline are required. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment in the School of Medicine, Department of Neurological Surgery. He/she will be expected to develop an independent, extramurally funded research program at the cutting edge of neurobiology and will contribute to the teaching mission of the University within the School of Medicine and the University-wide Neuroscience Graduate Program. This includes mentoring of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers and medical residents. Research activities will be housed in the Neurological Surgery research laboratories in the UC Davis School of Medicine Neuroscience Building on the Davis Campus. The Neurosurgery faculty is well integrated into the neuroscience community at UC Davis, with close and collegial interactions with members of the Center for Neuroscience as well as faculty from other campus institutes, departments, and graduate programs.
This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
