Position description

Main duties: Support field experiments aimed at restoring carbon storage in forests impacted by insects and pathogens. Assist with field greenhouse gas flux, litterfall, and fire root measurements. Assist with field vegetation inventory in permanent plots including tree diameter and height measurements. Organize samples and data collected at multiple study sites.

Field skills are essential to this position as well as an interest in a balance between fieldwork (up to 50%) and laboratory based work. Provide support in research experiments which includes organization of sample collections and datasets. Interpret research results and maintain quality control of field data for publication in academic journals. Engage in research activity for academic publications which includes meeting with PI, research team and stakeholders to discuss current and future research projects. Contribute to the drafting/editing of manuscripts, grant proposals, research reports and summarization of data collection to produce academic publications for peer reviewed journals. Contribute to drafting analysis for presentations at professional conferences. Work with undergraduate students and other lab staff including assisting with maintaining laboratory safety standards. This position requires at least a Bachelors degree. A valid driver’s license or ability/interest in acquiring a license is desirable. Substantial travel within California is required.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
