Position description

This is an internal search for an Endowed Chair in Physiology.

The Endowed Chair will be held by an established scientist who possess scholarly distinction and national or international recognition, highly meritorious service, and evidence of excellent university teaching, who is engaged in physiological research (non-plant, non-microbial), and who holds a faculty position in the College of Biological Sciences at the rank of Professor. The area of physiological sciences is defined broadly to include the study of functions of cells, tissues, organ systems, and/or organisms, with a focus on regulation and underlying mechanisms.

The initial term of the Endowed Chair is for five years, with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191).

The endowment pay out will support the chair’s efforts in research, teaching and service and further the mission of the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and the campus.

It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.

In addition, as the holder of the Endowed Chair you are expected to:

• Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of Physiology.

• Teach one full course a year at the undergraduate level in the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior and the equivalent of one-half of an addition course, which can be in whole or in part at the undergraduate or graduate level.

• Conduct research on physiological processes and perform service to the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior and the broader community in which it is situated.

• Provide leadership in the area of physiological processes and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior.

• Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.
