Diagnostic Anatomic Pathologist for avian and mammalian species with special interest in avian pathology. Asst/Assoc/Full Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Pathology in the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) and appropriate department, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. The successful candidate will be in residence at the CAHFS laboratory in Tulare, CA. This laboratory receives a diversity of mammalian and poultry species. These include cattle, sheep, goats, horses and poultry such as broilers, layers, turkeys, pigeons, ducks, quail, backyard chickens, and other avian species.

SALARY: Dependent on qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
DVM or equivalent degree with experience in mammalian/avian diseases and pathology required. Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) required. Appointment renewal requires ACVP or ECVP board certification within 3 years from date of hire. Demonstrated ability in diagnostic anatomic pathology required. Demonstrated experience in diagnostic disciplines, disease investigation and experience in diagnostic interpretation required. The successful candidate will have: i) excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with veterinarians, producers and government agencies; ii) client-focused, service-oriented approach to diagnostics; iii) demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere, and iv) demonstrated (or potential) accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity and inclusion. Knowledge of large scale dairy and poultry production preferred. Ph.D. degree in veterinary pathology or related field preferred. Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians desired. Knowledge of quality assurance, molecular diagnostics and bacteriology desired. Personnel management experience desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnostic Service: The candidate will function as a diagnostic pathologist in a regional diagnostic laboratory in Tulare, CA, and will be responsible for cases involving both avian and mammalian species. Interaction and consultation with veterinarians and producers is required. The ability to work productively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting is essential.

Research: Creative use of diagnostic case material including publication of results in appropriate journals is essential.

Teaching: The incumbent will have limited teaching responsibilities to veterinary students, graduate students, and residents.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate activities is required.
