We are seeking a highly motivated data-oriented individual to join Proyecto Dengue. This is a large, well-established research project based in Iquitos, a city located in the Amazon Basin of northeastern Peru. This exciting research aims to improve the understanding of both dengue and Zika virus transmission. The position offers a unique experience in global health and the opportunity to work with an active, scientifically diverse research team located across Peru and the US. We expect that qualified applicants will come from a range of disciplines, such as health informatics, computational biology, global disease biology, computer science, or other relevant field. We are seeking a Junior Specialist to perform the following duties:

  • Manage the project’s databases and data entry interfaces
  • Support daily operations of the research team in Iquitos, Peru
  • Work closely with the research team to develop data products and documentation necessary for publishable research
  • Participate in conference calls and project meetings with the broader research team as needed, approximately every 1-2 weeks

This position requires a commitment to considerable time at the project site in Iquitos, Peru. Ideally, the Junior Specialist will live in Iquitos, Peru, to work closely with the field research team, with periodic travel to team meetings in the US. Alternative arrangements that meet the project objectives could be considered. Provide support in experiments which includes interpretation of research results from data collection reports for academic publications/manuscripts. Engage in research activity for academic publications which includes meeting with PI, research team and USDA stakeholders to discuss current and future research projects. Contribute to the drafting/editing of manuscripts, grant proposals, research reports and summarization of data collection to produce academic publications for peer reviewed journals. Contribute to drafting statistical reports and analysis for presentations at professional conferences which will include drafting and editing research reports for appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations. Work with PIs and Research and Grant Financial Manager on pre‐award coordination including gathering data to report to awarding agencies.
