Position description

The Department of Neurology in conjunction with the Stem Cell Program/Institute for Regenerative Cures in the School of Medicine, University of California, Davis, are inviting applications for a faculty research position in the Assistant, In Residence series. We seek an outstanding candidate who studies Precision Neurotherapeutics for genetically-linked neurological disorders.

The successful applicant is expected to develop an independent, extramurally funded research program at the cutting edge of neuroscience. The applicant will devise and conduct studies to use integrated whole genome sequencing to identify genetic signatures linked to neurological disease that may be corrected or normalized using gene editing technologies; locate optimal regions of the genome that are targetable using gene editing molecules; examine optimal delivery modalities; develop therapeutic platforms for Huntington’s disease, Juvenile Huntington’s disease, CDKL5 deficiency, intractable pediatric epilepsy, and some forms of glioblastoma; develop neuroprotective strategies using mesenchymal cells that have been genetically engineered for Huntington’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders; develop novel techniques for human disease modeling; collect, summarize and analyze data; publish results in peer-reviewed journals; prepare research finding reports; maintain adequate funding streams for an independent research program; and develop a consortium project with UCD researchers on pediatric epilepsy as it relates to neurogenomics and precision neurotherapeutics.

A PhD or MD-PhD or equivalent and postdoctoral experience in neurogenomics, neurotherapeutics and stem cell gene editing is required. Candidates must have either an established record of research in neurotherapeutics with a history of publications in high-impact scientific journals or demonstrate strong evidence of ability. A strong promise of an externally funded program of research is required. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required. Candidates are required to have supervisory and administrative responsibilities related to their research program. All faculty members are required to provide University and public service. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment in the School of Medicine, Department of Neurology and will contribute to the graduate and undergraduate teaching mission of the University as well as to the University-wide Neuroscience Graduate Program.
